Fire hydrant flushings and inspections are periodic activities performed to ensure that fire hydrants are fully operational, deliver adequate water flow, and comply with applicable codes and standards. These activities help maintain system reliability and water quality for fire protection purposes.
When performing fire hydrant flushings and inspections, S&S Fire Protection will:
- Inspect hydrant components, including valves, nozzles, caps, and operating mechanisms, for damage, corrosion,
or obstruction. - Operate the hydrant to verify water flow, pressure, and proper function.
- Flush hydrants to remove sediment, debris, or stagnant water from the system.
- Lubricate moving parts and replace worn or damaged components as needed.
- Document inspection results and provide reports to building owners, managers, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) per NFPA 25 and local codes.
- Coordinate with local water authorities when necessary to minimize service disruption.
