Underground Repairs

Underground repairs involve locating, assessing, and restoring buried fire protection piping and appurtenances that have deteriorated, leaked, or failed. Proper maintenance and repair of underground fire lines are essential for ensuring reliable water supply to fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems, as well as maintaining compliance with applicable fire protection standards.

When performing underground repairs, S&S Fire Protection will:

  • Inspect underground fire mains, hydrants, valves, joints, and vault components for leaks, corrosion, settlement, or mechanical damage.
  • Excavate affected areas safely to expose damaged piping, valves, or fittings while protecting nearby utilities and site infrastructure.
  • Repair or replace damaged sections of pipe, thrust blocks, restraints, hydrant laterals, valve assemblies, and other buried components.
  • Conduct flushing, hydrostatic testing, and flow testing in accordance with NFPA 24 and NFPA 25 to verify proper system performance after repairs.
  • Restore site surfaces, backfill, and compaction to ensure long-term piping stability and compliance with local requirements.
  • Document all repairs, testing, and site restoration for building owners, water authorities, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Provide recommendations to address corrosion, soil conditions, or system deficiencies that may affect long-term underground piping reliability.
