Air compressor and nitrogen generator installation refers to the setup, connection, and commissioning of equipment used to supply supervisory gas to dry, preaction, and other special-purpose fire sprinkler systems. These systems maintain the correct pressure in sprinkler piping to prevent accidental water discharge while ensuring rapid system response during a fire.
When performing these installations, S&S Fire Protection will:
- Install air compressors, nitrogen generators, and associated tanks, filtration systems, dryers, valves, and piping.
- Connect equipment to the fire sprinkler riser, trim, and system supervisory devices.
- Ensure proper ventilation, electrical power, and mounting per manufacturer and code requirements.
- Configure system pressures, verify leak rates, and set up pressure maintenance devices.
- Perform start-up, testing, and commissioning in accordance with NFPA 13, NFPA 20 (where applicable), NFPA 72, and
NFPA 25. - Train building personnel on basic operation, monitoring, and maintenance expectations.
Characteristics & Benefits:
Maintains system readiness
Provides the required supervisory air or nitrogen pressure for dry and preaction sprinkler systems.
Nitrogen enhances system longevity
Reduces corrosion by replacing oxygen-rich air with high-purity nitrogen.
Critical for cold-weather applications
Prevents internal freezing by keeping piping dry until system activation.
Code-regulated installation
Must meet specific requirements for pressure, performance, monitoring, and reliability.
