Hot Box Installations

Hot Box service and repair involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing existing heated enclosures that protect fire protection system components—such as fire department connections (FDCs), control valves, and backflow devices—from freezing. Proper servicing ensures that these critical components remain functional and accessible during cold weather emergencies.

When performing hot box service, repair, and installation S&S Fire Protection will:

  • Inspect existing hot boxes for structural damage, insulation deterioration, corrosion, leaks, or electrical/heating system malfunctions.
  • Test enclosed fire protection components (e.g., FDCs, control valves) to verify they operate correctly and remain accessible after repairs.

  • Ensure the hot box maintains proper internal temperature to prevent freezing and system impairment.
  • Document all inspections, repairs, and functional tests for building owners and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Provide recommendations for preventive maintenance to extend the life and reliability of hot box installations and the components they protect.
  • Install new hot box enclosures for backflow devices and fire department connections.
